What started back in the days as a teenage thrill of a young boy, turned into reality and is now about to outgrow his dreams.
Marcell von Berlin - the red carpet favorite of fashion divas as Mariah Carey, Katy Perry, Alessandra Ambrosio and Michelle Hunziker - is back on track.
On another level, in another universe, but with the same excitement and passion for dressing women, Berlin has one of it's stars back - fully charged, set to new horizons and with a very own Maison in the very heart of the city.
A graduate of the probably most prestigious fashion design school in the world - The Parsons School of Design in New York - Marcell is not a stranger to exquisite style and bold visions. Already in his first years in the industry, he was able to experiment with shapes and materials during jobs at Donna Karan and Michael Kors before launching his own brand in 2011.
Marcell never stopped dreaming and here he is today, standing in his outrageously well designed 600 square-meter mono-brand boutique in the Friedrichstrasse of Berlin.
Right across Gucci, next to Rolex, around the corner of Max Mara, Marcell's store and his creations are a milestone for high-end shoppers and fashionistas hopping up and down the fashion mile of the city.
All held in marble, velvet, leather, authentic concrete and brass, visitors can clearly see that a true perfectionist has been in his element and designed this to be the house of his most valued designs.
The upper floor holds the couture gowns of the brand; the ground level presents the progressive ready-to-wear pieces for Women and Men of the youngster. What's pretty unique and not often seen in town is a materialized dream of any designer - to have his own shop and atelier with his cutters and tailors all together.
This is where Marcell's creativity and craftsmanship align and emerge in sight of his customers. On top of it all, one can often see him running up and down the impressive staircase of the boutique and personally fitting a dress or greeting clients - "they are all an additional daily source of inspiration for me, all my clients are unique and move me", he often says.
As Berlin has emerged into a fashion / urban culture / art / music melting pot, Marcell's progressive and innovative designs serve as an eclectic mix of posh West-Side glam and alternative East-Side chick: the single elements making this city so unique.
On your next stroll round the Friedrichstrasse, don't miss stopping by his fabulous store to discover not juts his designs, but also have a drink or a small bite at the authentic Berlin-Style "Späti" he has integrated into his boutique - don't mis out on this:

Willing to know a bit more about the person behind the brand, we had a quick chat with Marcell about his vision of fashion, his personal style and what's next for his brand.
When did you have your first love-affair with fashion and design?
My grandmother was a sewer and I grew up all surrounded by fabrics and sewing accessories, i remember her sitting on the sewing machine and hand-knitting as if it was just yesterday. I think my passion for craftsmanship and the love for this profession woke up back then and never left ever since..
Your style and your previous collections went through a journey and some transformations over the last years – what is different and new about Marcell in this collection?
I always worked and still work with classic fits but today I´m much more courageous; I use more innovative materials and have the possibility to use high-quality fabrics. My street-couture is a mix between new look and street style, a very international look and my interpretation of the Zeitgeist. Music inspires me a lot and the urban Berlin style which is so different in the specific districts. I often say “We are CharlottenBerg” – the vibrant mix between the posh Charlottenburg and alternative Kreuzberg.
For someone working with shapes and colors, it is a hard question to ask, but: do you have a favorite color shade?
I love the dark color palette; Also in summer I use less light tones and like to set statements by using strong colors. When it comes to basics though and I design t-shirts or sweaters, I follow an old-school rule: t-shirts in white and sweater in grey, this always looks classy.
Describe your style in 5 words
Casual, wearable, sporty, unique, innovative.
What is the first thing in the morning you think of?
When I wake up my first thoughts are regarding the next steps of creating my new collection i at the particular moment work on. Very often, overnight a draft or idea got clearer. After a work-out I go to the store and the atelier - luckily, they are in one place - and I start working on the designs with my team.I´m also present in the store - i find it absolutely important to be close to my clients and interact.
Do you collect anything?
Oh yes, I love buying shoes and clothes and I´m a real shopaholic when it comes to sneakers, I have almost 150 pairs. I am a real sneaker addict.
What fashion piece did u buy last for yourself?
A pair of beautiful Tom Ford sunglasses.
Which designers does a designer himself shop?
All my sunglasses are from Tom Ford as they are the perfect “classy” round-up to my rather casual look. They have the perfect shape for my face. My Sneakers are mostly from Nike and Jeans I mostly wear from Avior or Dsquared.
What is your fashion no-go for the catwalk?
Personally, I do not like it if it gets too naked, this is not my understanding of sexiness. I create progressive and provocative designs, but I would never let a model walk too naked over the catwalk. I respect women and love to dress them.
Do you ever not work? What do you do when you are not working?
In my spare time I love to meet friends, but you`re right: I mostly work or am in the middle of a creative process, especially right now as I just opened my first store in Berlin. My friends often also stop by here to say “hello”, which is great. I don`t really separate my work and spare time, I consider myself very blessed for being able to live my passion. I´m really thankful for that.
What is the greatest thing about your job at the moment?
The coolest thing about my job is that I can be free and that I can express my inspirations and ideas. I have a great team and the possibility to try out new things, to test new fits and material combinations or to work on a single piece for a celebrity who asked me to create something special for a show or a red carpet event. I love designing really feminine evening gowns to underline the natural beauty of a woman.
Name some of your fashion-idols and fashion icons?
My designer idols are Alexander McQueen, Tom Ford and Martin Margiela. MvB has its focus on ready-to-wear womenswear and haute couture, an homage to femininity and women's character strength - this is what I see and admire in the fashion of the mentioned designers.
My absolute fashion icon is Kate Moss. She is a natural beauty, a unique character and my personal heroine since decades.
Who would you like to see wearing an outfit by you?
I adore Angela Merkel, she is a real cult-person and stands for Berlin, and so does my label. It would be an honor for me to see her wearing one of my designs.
My big music idol is Beyoncé – an independent and strong woman going her own way and being feminine to the max – the same way she would perfectly suit my designs.
What is next for Marcell von Berlin?
Next steps are to further expand my brand and to enter the U.S. market. Creating my own fragrance line is also in the back of my mind as well as line extensions, we will see.
Currently my focus is the design of my new Haute Couture line and to establish MARCELL VON BERLIN as high-end designer brand.
What is next for Marcell?
After having worked really hard on my relaunch the last couple of months, I am saving some room for my partner and family. I am also planning a trip to L.A. to get new inspiration and to enjoy the sun too :)
Stay tuned for more updates about Marcell and don't miss a visit at his store.
